IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: Aftermarket ball joints SUCK compared to genuine Honda ones. Most are now made very cheaply in Southeast Asia and there are ongoing problems with construction and materials. Each one is a critical component and the consequences of one breaking could be serious. Bottom line is: do not replace a good genuine Honda joint with an aftermarket one unless there is no other option. If the joint moves freely, quietly, smoothly, and doesn't have any play then there is absolutely no reason it needs to be replaced. For example my genuine joints have over 200k on them and they are still tight. I just restored them with a new coating, packed new grease, and new boot.


What is this list for?
The goal is to have one thread with part numbers for each suspension and steering component. The part numbers listed are only for the best quality manufacturer/component that can currently be bought. Parts that require modification to fit are only included if they are the only option.

Basically if you want to install the best (still available) parts on your 3rd gen, buy what is listed here. (Do take note of that important disclaimer about the ball joints above.)

So a heads up, the rear 4ws tie rod end (Ultra Power ES2945) DID NOT work for my 88 4ws. Not sure if there were any model year changes or not but mine has a slightly larger diameter fitting. See photo below. I peaked at my front tie rods and the Ultra Power ES2945 would seem to work on the front as the rod diameter is smaller.

That sucks. I think someone on Preludepower had to turn down the rear tie rods to M12x1.25 to use them. I may need to investigate adapting those aftermarket 2WS toe rods (or just the rod end) to work with the 4WS setup.

Rear tie saga continues. Bought a Moog ES2942RL just to test fit and no go. Same diameter as the other 2942 part numbers. I did find on Dormans site where it cross-referenced the Honda part number and this is what I got. The part that is frustrating is they list the thread size diameter as 12mm;10mm. Those 2mm are what is making this a pain! I may call Dorman soon to see if I can get an answer OR i'll just shoot the J and order this since returns on amazon are easy.

Alright, good news for rear tie rod people. I have hunted down thread specs because I was not about to pay $100+ for ONE tie rod.

Key Note - Due this at your own risk. I have had good luck so far but some minor modifications may need to occur for your car.

Specs:

Rod thread specifications - m14 x 1.5
Stud (where castle nut threads) - Factory is m10 x 1.25 However you CAN use m12 x whatever (1.0,1.25, etc) since it comes with its own nut. The mount on the spindle is large enough to fit M12.

Potential cars:

I used a tie rod from a 86-91 Celica. The length of the tie rod is about the same but I did use a washer as the Stud may have been a smidge longer? I should have measured.

95-98 Hyundai Sonata seems to be a good alternative. Shorter than OEM but should be a nice alternative.

If you need more length and would rather cut the tie rod to length than 91-95 Alfa Romeo 164

Kevin - Cudaboy has verified that if you can find them, the 4th gen Prelude rear Tie Rod ends work for ours.
Here are the part numbers:

I know this is an older thread but I'm pretty sure that this is me. I had to have my rear inner tie rod ends machined and rethreaded to fit the outers.

I bought rear outer tie rod ends from RockAuto that had the right part number but didn't fit. Like the ones above they were too small to thread onto the inner tie rods so I took them to a friend's machine shop and had them modified to fit. It's been well over a year now and so far so good.

The only issue has been that I haven't been able to find an alignment shop that will touch my car due to it having modified steering parts.
Maybe there's a shop out there that will do it, but I haven't been able to find them.

I've had to invest in the tools to do the alignments myself (I'm still looking for affordable turnplates), but other than that I haven't had any problems with the parts themselves. They're holding up and working just fine.

Sometimes you have to be a little bit creative when you drive a car with (very) limited aftermarket support. If all else fails modify or fabricate, just do it safely.

These are ENERGY SUSPENSION 16.10102 bushings installed on the 4WS gearbox. This kit is originally for a 90-93 Accord front rack.

The wrap around bushing requires 3/8 - 1/2" removed from its length. The round bushings need ~1/16" removed from one of them so that the overall height is similar to the stock rubber one:

If you need replacement ball joint boots the following Energy Suspension ones will work. One downside is that these don't use any metal clips like the OE ones so they are less secure and more likely to fall off while you have the ball joint popped.

FRONT: TBD, I bought the same part numbers as the rear but have not test fit them yet (I expect them to work).
