Keeping Your CF Hood Finish Looking Good

I'm writing this to make people who have bought ANY 3rd gen CF hood aware of a finish problem you may run into a year or 2 down the line. First the pictures:

Now as you may or may not be able to see, there are little cracks in the clear/gel coat. I'm not sure if this is repairable or not, but it's not too late for your hood.

This is happening only in one spot on the hood, directly above where the header sits. Just too much heat is radiated and the hood cant take it for years. I must say again, it doesn't really matter who made the hood! The problem isn't the hood, it's the fact that we have a low hood line and a motor that tilts backwards. The header is sitting closer to the hood than on most other cars out there, and when your using aftermarket headers even more heat gets radiated to the hood.

If I'm driving in the rain and come to a stop then look close at the hood there is steam coming off it. Get out of the car after a drive and put your hand on the hood over where the headers are, it gets pretty warm, if not hot.

The solution I would recommend for others is to put some heat resistant material on the underside of the hood, at least in the area above the header. Also, VIS makes a hood with a big vent on it called the invader style, looking at the vent I'm not so sure it would help this problem much because the vent looks like it's too far forward.. just a thought.

That's it, just wanted to let CF hood owners know...
